It is anticipated that many proposed studies will focus on Medicare-eligible older adults (ages 65+); however, younger populations will be considered with appropriate justification. This exception acknowledges that some populations may experience the phases of aging at chronologically earlier ages, and also that some diseases that are a significant burden to older adults begin at earlier ages. Studies that focus on populations who would benefit from health equity approaches (e.g., rural-dwelling, low income, racial/ethnic groups, individuals with low health literacy, limited English proficiency, or living in unstable circumstances) are encouraged, as are studies that provide knowledge about an intervention’s impact on multiple subgroups. The inclusion of caregivers is strongly recommended; please refer to the PFA for specific guidance.
