PCORI Help Center

What is PCORI's definition of primary care? Would this include obstetrics and gynecology?

“Primary care is defined as the provision of integrated, accessible health care services by clinicians who are accountable for addressing a large majority of personal health care needs, including prevention and health promotion, developing a sustained partnership with patients, and practicing in the context of family and community,” as defined by the Institute of Medicine and Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. In the context of this funding announcement, primary care is being broadly defined. It may include care that takes place in primary care offices, obstetrics/gynecology, and dental offices, as well as emergency departments, and urgent care centers.
