In general, PCORI will not cover costs for PCORI project interventions or equipment that constitute preventive, diagnostic, or treatment products or procedures that are being proposed for comparison in the PCORI project (“intervention costs”). In addition, PCORI does not pay for salary or time compensation of personnel who administer or manage use of the interventions (“patient care costs”) in the projects it funds. The host healthcare delivery system, third-party payer, product manufacturer, intervention developer, or other interested party must cover the patient care costs. Furthermore, research costs related to the study implementation, such as costs related to data collection, blinding, and obtaining informed consent, are not considered patient care/intervention costs but rather they are costs related to conducting the study and thus are allowed in study budgets.
